02.25.2008 - February 2008 iTravelInsured - Newsletter  (Back to News)

Welcome to the 3rd issue of the iTravelInsured®(iTI®) newsletter

This is a busy month for travel agents! Couples are booking trips to suprise their loved ones; many of them are getting engaged and will start looking for different honeymoon options and destinations; others may be renewing their vows. Make sure your couples are protected during these special trips with an iTravelInsured® program.

Quote For the Month:

"To love what you do and feel that it matters- how could anything be more fun."

- Katharine Graham

Global Protection
At the requst of many of our agents, iTI has now developed a link that can be placed on an agency's Web site to allow their customer to book directly with iTravelInsured. The new icon resembles a lock. The globe signifies worldwide travel and coverage and the lock symbolizes the security and peace of mind that an iTravelInsured program provides to your traveler. This program will be available in March. Please contact your Regional Sales Manager or iTI's Agency Services for information and instructions for the installation of the icon. This is just another way to get more travelers to say, "I Travel Insured..do you?"

Personalization..A Sure Way to Get a Customer for Life

The travel industry is known for being driven by competition. According to the Bureau of labor Statistics (BLS), travel agents made up about 101,000 jobs in May 2006 (http://www.bls.gov/). The entry of online booking sites like Expedia, Orbiz and Travelocity has opened new cost effective ways for consumers to book their travel arrangements.

What advantage does a travel agent have against these competitve factors? Personal touch as well as the ability to provide expertise and guidance to enhance the entire travel experience. Many travelers are choosing to work with travel agents because of all of the personalized details they can obtain including the recommendations that will make their trips memorable.

Travel agents can get customers for life by taking personalization a step further. It is all about the details, like sending a postcard to the couple going on a honeymoon to wish them a great trip, giving customers luggage tags with the travel agency's logo, sending them Website links that provide more information on trip destinations or even calling a week after a client has taken a trip to make sure he/she had a wonderful time.

Offering travel insurance is one of the best ways travel agents can demonstrate that they are looking out for the customer's well being and safety. Peace of mind is a personal service that a computer or an online booking site cannot replicate.

Travel agents are facing the reality that they are working in a very competitive industry. It takes more time and resources to obtain new customers than to retain them. If travel agents want a customer to remember them every time that person is ready for a getaway, just remember the formula, "personalization = customer retention."
